Job Title: Energy Advisor Training Program
Hours: 35 per week (full-time, seven month term position) 
Location: Flexible Locations, Nova Scotia
Anticipated Start Date: June 2024 
Salary: $1885 bi-weekly ($26.50 per hour)
 
Home Energy Advisor Opportunity:

Opportunity: 16 Home Energy Advisors to receive seven-month training

Clean Foundation’s Energy Advisor Training Program provides hands-on energy advisor training, where participants learn construction and renovation practices that support the reduction of energy use of homes and buildings.

Home Energy Advisors receive a salary and benefits while learning the skills for a highly in-demand industry in Nova Scotia. 

Graduates from this program will be equipped with all the skills, abilities, equipment, hands on experience and connections required to become registered Energy Advisors (EA) through Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). 

How long is the program:

The program is seven months, running from June 10, 2024 – December 13, 2024 

What will trainees receive:

·    A salaried ($1885 bi-weekly prior to income deductions such as EI, CPP and Income Taxes) position with access to a health spend account.
·    Safety certifications, first aid training, etc.
·    Tools and equipment required to be successful as an energy advisor.
·    Personalized training from Clean’s dedicated team of energy advisors and industry-leading training professionals.
·    Hands on experience conducting energy assessments in the field.
·    Fully paid access to Natural Resources Canada’s Energy Advisor exams.
·    Access to a network of potential employers across Nova Scotia.

Who is eligible for the program:

·    Applicants must self-identify as Indigenous person and those residing in Nova Scotia who self-identify as underserved or underrepresented.
·   Applicants must be at least 18 years of age by June 2024.

What do you need to have to apply:

·    A positive attitude and willingness to work collaboratively with fellow learners and an excellent support team. 
·    Working ability with Windows  11, Microsoft Office, and other software
·    Strong organizational, problem-solving skills will be beneficial in this role.
·    An interest and curiosity in how buildings work.
·    Experience working in construction, trades or in other client focused positions will be considered an asset.
·    Good verbal and written communication skills. 

What will the program include:

·    Build your science knowledge: You will learn how to collect information about how homes are constructed, use math to calculate perimeter, area, and volume, and then use that information to create virtual energy models, and make decisions on what energy renovations to recommend. Successful completion of this training will result in the nationally recognized Energy Advisor certification through NRCan.
·    Get hands on experience: Work alongside an experienced team of energy advisors where you will participate in the day-to-day EA activities including installations, paperwork, photography and all other required home assessment techniques. 
·    Be safe: You will be provided training in first aid, safe building operation, material safety and safe operation of equipment required during energy assessments.
·    Communications: You will be an active and engaged participant in all in-class and field-based training activities. You will learn how to provide clients with recommendations about the type of renovations that will help the environment, save them money and make their homes more comfortable. 
·    Computer programs: In addition to being supported in becoming proficient in computer use in an everyday business setting, you will learn how to apply the knowledge gained through training and the information you’ve collected in the field to build energy models in specialized software. 

How is the training set up:
 
Trainees will spend time learning in both in person and digital classroom settings as well as performing energy assessments in homes across Nova Scotia. During home energy assessments, Energy Advisor Trainees are required to work both in and outside of the home, under inclement weather, in spaces where access or conditions may be challenging such as attics and crawl spaces, at heights up to 10 feet using ladders and under conditions that require a respirator. Required safety equipment, mileage and supports will be provided by Clean. 
 
Where is the training located:
 
This is primarily a remote training program as it is open Nova Scotia wide. Additional support is available to individuals who require support finding an environment that is favourable to a positive learning/training environment free from distractions – this may involve commuting to Sydney. Travel to and from training events and appointments will be required and overnight lodging will sometimes be necessary - these travel expenses will be covered by Clean. 

What are the physical requirements: 

·    Climbing up and down ladders.
·    Comfort in confined spaces, such as attics and crawl spaces.
·    Sitting for extended periods.
·    Lifting and carrying up to approximately 50 lbs.
·    Reaching and working above the head.
·    Use of basic hand tools.
*Specific skills will be part of the training program.

What is the trainee salary:

$1,885 bi-weekly prior to income deductions such as EI, CPP and Income Taxes.

Compensation
